Wii be Ninjas in Zion

Kimberly was pretty excited to get Wii Fit, the exercise video game from Nintendo. she pre-ordered and while we were in California over the long weekend, it arrived. So now in addition to getting in our steps from walking to and from work, we are tracking additional steps from our Wii Aerobic Exercises, Wii Balance Games, and other Wii Fit activities.

Hey Everyone!

I thought that I would post something. I'm Ben. I really don't have any goals with regard to walking. I was, however, thinking about trying to get 8,000 steps in just by walking backwards, but I'm not sure if it will take steps off of my pedometer instead of putting more on. I guess I could always switch which side I where my pedometer on. Who knows? The biggest problem though is that if I decide to sell my pedometer, the total steps walked wouldn't be a good reflection of it's actual mileage. Sure I may get more money for it, but is that really honest?

Pedometer woes

I just realized that my pedometer isn't really counting all of my steps. I walked all around Target yesterday, and it only recorded about 200 steps. Then I walked from the HFAC parking lot to the library, and it said it took me 39 steps. That would have to be 39 REALLY BIG steps! Then when I went home from work, it recorded 7 steps going down the stairs from the 6th floor to the 3rd floor. That's when I was convinced it wasn't really doing it's job.

The frustrating thing is that was the second pedometer I bought. The first one didn't catch all my steps either. Teg thinks I walk too smoothly or something. What pedometers are you all using? I don't really feel like buying another one, but I can't walk around with a tally sheet all day, counting my steps, can I?

Glad to be part of the team

Hi, I'm Heidi and I'm married to Troy. I used to work at the ELC, but now I'm just the PTA president. I am happy to be participating in this challenge and hope that it will jump me back on the path of exercise again. Surgery kind of put a big damper on what I used to do, so I have to do different kinds of exercise things for the next month. Then I'll be free!
I like the Ninja name. I've never been a ninja before, but I went to Tibet last summer and I think I may have seen one there. At the very least, I can add "ninja" to the titles I hold on my resume.
So far I've gotten in a lot of steps but I'm consistently the lowest stepper at our house. Troy and the kids beat me every day. But there is hope that I will be able to beat them some day!
Here's one of my reasons to exercise...

One of my goals this summer is to do a 25 mile bike ride with our oldest daughter, Hannah. We've already done an 8 mile ride and this Saturday we're doing a 10 mile ride. Shouldn't be too hard, but the "pedometer-equivalents" will certainly add up!
Here's a "get-extra-steps-in" suggestion:
Play Dance Dance Revolution
The kids swear that it works and each day they continually have close to 20,000 or more steps. Who am I to doubt?
p.s.-Yes, the time of this post is correct. It is THAT early.

Ninjas?

I'm pretty sure that the team name was Tegwyn's idea. Am I right? Anyway, I'm Alisa. I'm a librarian at the good ol' HBLL. I am also Tegwyn's wife, and Teg and I are in the same ward as the Coxes. Here are some things I have learned since starting this challenge:

  • Skipping the elevator to take the stairs is a good.

  • Parking farther out in the parking lot so you can get a little exercise is good.

  • Walking to the park with your kids for a little fresh air, exercise, and quality time is good.

  • Walking somewhere to save gas and get some exercise is also good.

  • Jogging in place while washing dishes is a total waste of time.

  • Jogging in place while nursing a baby just sounds like a really bad idea.

So I realize that I only take about half as many steps as Teg in an average day, but I don't want any broken dishes or babies around here. I hope you will forgive me and accept what few steps I have to offer!

Steathily making our way to Zion

Yes, I suppose "Ninjas in Zion" sounds less blasphemous than "Ninjas for Jesus" (stealthily doing good unto all men).

I'm Robb and I work at the ELC with Troy and Ben. I also go to church with Ben, Aaron, and Kimberly (who is my wife). Talk about a network of ninjas!

Virtual Peptalk

Since our team doesn't work in the same, I thought I'd do something to try and promote team unity.

You've all been added as authors, and I'd like each of you to take a minute and introduce yourself and tell what your fitness goals are.

I'm Troy Cox and I formed this team in response to a challenge from someone I used to work with—Curtis Isaak (a.k.a. Fanatic AL). His team is Pioneer Children.

While the health benefits of exercise are great, I'm not above competition for its own sake.

My other goal for this competition is to try and lose between 10 and 20 lbs. I enjoy cycling and my cycling goal for this year is to do 2 century (100 mile)  rides.

I look forward to being on your team.
